Jesus sent a few apostles to make preparations for the Passover Meal which has become the center of our Eucharistic Celebration. The sacristan is the modern day disciple of such preparations. She or he, under the general direction of the clergy, undertakes the overall preparation of liturgical celebrations and all that is needed for each specific celebration. A good sacristan is a gift to any parish and the post fulfills a true liturgical function. As the Ceremonial of Bishops states: "The adornment and decor of a church should be such as to make the church a visible sign of love and reverence toward God"
