The lectors proclaim the Word of God during the liturgy, in which the lector allows the Holy Spirit to speak through him or her to the assembled community. The lectors must have a profound love and reference for sacred scripture. In the absence of a deacon the lector is responsible for the proclamation of the Prayers of the Faithful and the prayers of the entire community offered to God.
