The Feast of Christ the King is a special day we celebrate Jesus as the King of everything — of Heaven, Earth, and our hearts! It’s the last Sunday of the Church year, and the very next week we begin Advent, when we get ready for Jesus’ birth at Christmas.
We celebrate this feast to remind us that Jesus is the most important person in our lives. He isn’t a king with a crown of gold or who lives in a big palace. Jesus is a loving and gentle King who came to serve others and to show us how to love, forgive, and bring peace to the world.
Even though He is powerful, Jesus chose to be humble. He gave His life for us so that we could be free from sin and live forever with Him. As we get ready for Advent, we remember that our King came to us as a tiny baby in Bethlehem — a King of love and mercy.
“Christ the King of the Universe, have mercy on us and on the whole world!”
Or in Spanish: “Viva Cristo Rey!” — which means “Long live Christ the King!”
Thank you, Jesus Christ, for coming into this world as our King. Stay with us this week, and show us the way to your kingdom in heaven. Amen.
